Ctenanthe oppenheimiana
Ctenanthe oppenheimiana is a bushy tropical foliage plant with an upright growth habit. This decorative Ctenanthe has lance-shaped leaves with a leathery texture. The leaves are light green with dark green stripes on the upper side, while the underside of the leaves is purple/red. Ctenanthe oppenheimiana is native to Brazil and Costa Rica as an evergreen, herbaceous perennial. There, it grows in the shady, moist underlayers of tropical rainforests. Ctenanthe is closely related to Calathea and can easily be grown together. Just like Calathea, Ctenanthe closes its leaves at night and unfolds them again in the morning. Ctenanthe is also internationally known as the Never-never plant. Evanthia has Ctenanthe oppenheimiana starting material available year-round as young plants from tissue culture.
