Musa velutina is an evergreen perennial with a compact growth habit. This decorative banana plant has rich green foliage and stands out for its striking upright pink flowers and fruits. Musa velutina is native to humid tropical and subtropical parts of Southwest China and Northeast India, where it grows in the Greater Himalayas. When the plants are established and it is summer, Musa velutina produces deep pink flowers and edible pink bananas (although filled with many small hard black seeds).
