Strelitzia, a.k.a. Bird of Paradise, is a popular subtropical foliage plant, well-known for its exotic large, upright, banana-like leaves and extraordinary flowers. Stunning Strelitzia nicolai
The leaves of Strelitzia nicolai are fewer but larger than the more commonly known S. reginae. Strelitzia nicolai is native to subtropical areas of South Africa, where it grows as an evergreen perennial on rocky grassland, coastal scrub and along sunny river banks. It grows striking blue and white flowers, nestled within broad its grey/green leaves. These long-lasting, rare flowers usually appear 3 to 5 years after germination. Because of its height, Strelitzia nicolai is commonly known as Giant Bird of Paradise.
