It has heart-shaped leaves with colourful dark green and pink speckles and spots. Hypoestes phyllostachya is originally an herbaceous perennial from tropical Madagascar. There, it grows in shady places in the underlayers of forests and rainforests, where it can form a dense carpet. Hypoestes is highly decorative as a houseplant and easy to mix with all colours. As an annual, it is also suitable for patio pots and flower beds. Hypoestes phyllostachya is known as the Polka Dot Plant.
