Calathea sanderiana ornata
Calathea ornata is an elegant tropical foliage plant with a compact, upright growth habit. This Calathea has thick, elongated dark green leaves. The glossy leaves feature a unique, baby-pink pinstripe pattern. As the leaves age, this baby-pink color will eventually turn more yellow to white. The underside of the leaves is deep purple to dark green. As a typical Calathea, C. ornata also earns the nickname 'living plant' because it closes or raises its leaves at night and unfurls or lowers them again in the morning. All the colors and patterns of C. ornata give this nocturnal habit an extra special effect. Calathea ornata is originally an evergreen perennial from tropical regions of South America, where it grows in the shaded, moist underlayers of rainforests. It is a stylish and easy houseplant. Calathea ornata is also known as the Peacock Plant. Other internationally used names for Calathea ornata include: Goeppertia ornata; Pinstripe Calathea. Evanthia has Calathea ornata starting material available year-round, as young plants from tissue culture. Ask our team for the Calathea cultivation manual for commercial production.
